Staff hail Christmas gala a festive success

More than 400 staff from across Mater’s campuses danced the night away on Friday 4 December 2009 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre for the Mater Staff Christmas Gala.

Following much speculation, the mystery master of ceremonies was revealed as Channel Nine celebrity Jules Lund, best known for his work on Getaway.

Singing ensemble belladiva set the scene and charmed the crowd with Christmas carols before renowned band Odyssey took to the stage.

Mater Chief Executive Officer Dr John O’Donnell said the staff who attended were largely responsible for the event’s resounding success.

“Mater people were undoubtedly what brought the event ‘to life’—from those brave enough to compete in the air guitar competition, to those who simply embraced the spirit of fellowship with their colleagues on the night,” Dr O’Donnell said.

Accommodation packages, shopping vouchers, EFM gym memberships, and an iPhone were among the mountain of prizes up for grabs on the night, with event organisers estimating that one in five guests did not go home empty handed.

Strong advance interest has been shown in a similar gala event for staff in 2010.
