Mater. Exceptional People. Exceptional Care.

Mater Childcare celebrates

Mater Childcare celebrated five years of quality educational experiences and exceptional care on 19 May 2009, with a special morning tea for the children and their families.

More than 75 people attended the event, held in the centre’s playground, with children asked to dress as their favourite story book character.

Mater Childcare Director Haritini Kouvidis said the centre had many reasons to celebrate in 2009.

“Mater Childcare was randomly selected for re-accreditation in 2009 and we were really pleased with the results,” Ms Kouvidis said.

“The survey has 692 indicators upon which centres are reviewed and Mater Childcare performed exceptionally high in many of the criteria, with several ratings of 100 per cent.

“This clearly demonstrates that Mater Childcare is a leader in the Queensland child care industry.”

Staff, parents and children in childcare were also able to celebrate the approval of funding from Mater Health Services for the redevelopment of Mater Childcare, which is set to commence in 2010.

The expansion includes a new purpose-built facility adjacent to the existing centre, and will make up to 186 additional child care places available. The centre currently supports approximately 120 Mater families but more than 300 are on a waitlist.

“With more than 7000 staff now based at Mater’s South Brisbane campus, increased child care support for busy mums and dads is a vital part of staff retention,” Ms Kouvidis explained.

“The new facility will increase the level of service on offer and provide a number of benefits and service improvements for children in childcare and their families.”

The existing centre will remain operational throughout construction, which is expected to commence later in 2010.
